HOMEOPATHY: A gentle way to better health
First Aid and Homeopathy
There are many remedies to treat first aid situations such as pain, tooth extraction, accidents, bruising, minor burns, insect stings, bites, cuts, bleeding, shock, food poisoning, dizziness, nausea and hangovers.
Consider buying a book on first aid remedies but please note that it is better to consult a homeopath if unsure which remedy to use and always seek help for emergencies.
Here are a few common remedies with brief descriptions of some of their uses in first aid situations.
Apis is used to treat bites and stings where there is hot swelling, redness and burning pains.
Arnica is for accidents and shock. It helps with pain as well as reducing swelling and bruising. It is ideal after dental work or surgery to speed healing. It relieves bruised aching after heavy physical activity.
Belladonna can be used for fevers where the patient is red hot but often has cold hands and feet. Pupils may be dilated. Use for inflammation where there is throbbing and heat or for throbbing headaches.
Calendula is for healing cuts and wounds. It promotes formation of healthy scar tissue. Calendula mother tincture (liquid form) can be diluted in water (one part to ten parts water) and applied directly to the skin. Calendula or hypercal (calendula and hypericum) cream is an essential part of a first aid kit.
Hypericum is for treating wounds especially when injured outside e.g. dog bites, barbed wire, rose thorns. It is for deep lacerations, pain shooting along the nerves, injury of areas rich with nerve endings like the finger tips. It is suitable for use after root canal work.
Nux Vomica is a key remedy for hangovers or any overindulgence in food and drink. It is good for people who work and play hard and suffer from gastric problems or headaches as a result.
Rhus Tox can help with strains and sprains when the first movement is painful but gentle movement eases the pain.
